The Castle of Metamorphoses
Located 70 km East of Rome, the Castle of Rocca Sinibalda is one of the most fascinating Italian castles. Grade I Listed as a National Monument, it has been standing since the 11th century on a spur of rock overhanging the Turano Valley.
Its current appearance originates from a bold zoomorphic design by the Renaissance architect Baldassarre Peruzzi: a powerful military fortress doubling with a sumptuous aristocratic palace. Also, a majestic eagle with its folded wings; more likely, a weird and sinister scorpion.
Visiting the Castle
The guided tour route passes through the Corte Grande, several halls and rooms on the Piano Nobile, the towering ramparts, the underground passages, the vast subterraaneans, and the gardens. The interior views and exterior panoramas are breathtaking.
Elegant local aperitifs can make visits even more ‘private’ and enjoyable. Special activities, performances, and workshops turn longer visits into rich and fascinating experiences tailored to each group.
Special programs for schools and universities.
Living in the Castle
Hospitality for the Happy Few, in large rooms and suites sometimes measuring hundreds of square meters. Sober elegant furnishings and breathtaking spaces. Guests allowed to move freely among the collections and works of art. Activities, for those who want them: mindtrekking, horse riding, biking, theater, music, dance. Artists in temporary residence sharing visions and experiences. Local cuisine, local products and local dishes, with the ladies of Rocca Sinibalda preparing and teaching. Wines. Silence. The stars, and telescopes to observe them.
